Refugee health

Caring for our community

The Federal Refugee Act of 1980 created a uniform system of services for refugees resettled in the United States. As such, each newly arriving refugee is entitled to a comprehensive health screening within the first 30 days after arriving in the United States.

The Utah Refugee Health Program within the Utah Department of Health and Human Services works alongside local and federal partners to ensure each newly arriving refugee to Utah receives a culturally and linguistically appropriate health screening. In addition, the program provides additional follow-up, mental health services, and health education.

For Utah Refugee Arrival rates and other indicators, please reference Utah’s Indicator Based Information System (IBIS) Health Indicator Report of Refugee Arrivals. For additional data requests, please complete the Refugee Health Data Request Form.
